Do not expect a solid tutorial / how-to guide on how to pack for a fieldtrip. It’s more like a “this is what I pack and I hope I didn’t miss something” post 🙂

I’m going away for the weekend with some friends and the destination is Miami, Florida. To be honest the main reason for the trip is not photography. Having said that it’s difficult to avoid thinking about the opportunities!

My plan is to rent a car sunday feb 7th, leave the city and try to find a very dark place and it should be possible based on light pollution websites. Somewhere around Big Cypress National Reserve could be an option.

The moon should be out of the way as the new moon is february 8th and I’m keeping fingers crossed for clear skies. According to the iPhone app PhotoPills the Galactic Center should be visible 03:57 and 05:47 in the morning of february 8th. This is not something we see at this time of the year in Norway so i’m really excited and hopefully I will be able to post some pictures here when getting back.

I have tried to keep the rig as light as possible but as you can see this is a difficult task 🙂 I want to be able to make a timelapse so I’ve packed both the Syrp Genie and Syrp Genie Mini together with the small Syrp Magic Carpet. I’m bringing a tripod and the Syrp Ball Head. The lenses are narrowed down to Sony FE Zeiss 24-70mm f4 and the Rokinon 14mm f/2.8. In addition I’ve packed three original batteries and two Sony NP-F970 batteries.

Variable ND filter, charging cables, Røde Videomicro, powerbank, lensepen and some tools will also be in the bag just in case.

So again – keeping my fingers crossed and hope for the best! How do you pack your bag when going on a fieldtrip? Let us know by leaving a comment below!
